“As observed, we don’t have many problems in Region 1. You are doing
be er compared with other Regions. However, when you are doing be er than the rest, you have to
make sure that you sustain your eff orts or strive -to be even be er or be the best.”
This was the challenge of Secretary Jesse M. Robredo of the Department of the Interior and
Local Government (DILG) when he met with the DILG Region 1 Ilocos Norte fi eld offi cers and the
members of the Regional Management Coordina ng Commi ee (RMCC) in Fort Ilocandia, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
The Secretary, on his fi rst me visit in Region 1, also took the opportunity to share that the Department is
more prepared to recognize performing local government units. “Last year, we launched the Seal of
Good Housekeeping and awarded local governments performing above benchmarks. In fact,
two of your municipali es were among the top 30 municipali es which were stamped with the Seal,”
the Secretary said. He added that the Department is slowly but surely keeping track of the internal opera ons of local
government units. He shared the eff orts the Department is exer ng in ARMM, where
the DILG is spearheading the conduct of audit. Secretary tackled some concerns
which were brought to his a en on like funding, recruitment, promo on of
uniformed personnel and capacity development for the DILG fi eld offi cers. (Lily Ann O. Colisao)
